HAPPY NEW YEAR! Lessons Taught in the Blogosphere: Year Two

Happy New Year, Lovelies!  It’s not only a happy new year, but it’s my 2nd year in business as Stylish Paradox! Stylist. Content Creator. Speaker. And what a ride it has been!  So many lessons have been taught to me.

Last year brought many new adventures and situations that helped me grow professionally and step out of my comfort zone.  Personally, style is a breeze, but being a small business owner is another type of stepping out!  Trust me.

God blessed me in 2017 with interviews, awards, numerous brand collaborations, new clientele, speaking engagements and the launch of a community collective of bloggers.  Virtual friends became real life friends and relationships with some of my closest allies went sideways.  The struggle to successfully balance my home life, friends, my 8 to 5 and my passion continue.

In year two, I still ask myself the question, “Should I continue?”  And as the thought lingers in my mind, a picture,  quote or scripture reading, will bring alive the passion like a fire that doesn’t seem to dim.

My goals will continue into this year and grow as the years pass: to put God and family first, be better everyday, inspire others, be consistent (all of which I work on, put haven’t perfected).

What lessons have I learned in year two?

TOP SEVEN LESSONS LEARNED

  1. What God has for you, is yours ONLY
  2. You must network with others
  3. Collaborate, share and partner with others in your field
  4. Be consistent, be consistent, be consistent
  5. Be your authentic self
  6. Don’t look at anybody else’s journey, focus on your own (stay in your lane)
  7. Keep learning and expanding your mindset to grow

I am excited about new opportunities in the coming year, both personally and professionally!

Please know that I am so thankful for your support and taking the time to ride with me on this journey! I am humbled.  Wishing you great health, prosperity, peace and blessings in 2018!

I love you all!

Julie

TER4JCP: Heaven Tuxedo Review

I bought a tuxedo from the Tracee Ellis Ross TER4JCP Collection!

Rarely do I get excited about famous folks.  I think it’s because I was born and raised in Tinseltown and it’s pretty ordinary to see and interact with actors, musicians and the like, while living in LA.  So why get excited when you have famous neighbors? Lol!

However, there are a handful of “these” types that I admire for different reasons.  The actress and comedian, Tracee Ellis Ross, happens to be one of them.  She is amazing at her craft, an activist and smart.  But let me tell y’all…her sense of style is off the charts!

When I caught wind that she was partnering with JCPenney to share a clothing line of her making, I knew I had to check it out!

When her collection dropped in the JCPenney stores November 12th, I had already done my research and knew what items I wanted.  I was stoked by the fact that her pieces were affordable, yet super cute!

For this post, I’m sharing the Heaven Tuxedo Jacket and the Heaven Tuxedo Pants. The jacket is fitted with the classic satin lapels and satin covered buttons at the cuff.  It also has light padding in the shoulders and is double vented in the back.  You might want to go up a size, because the fit is a little snug.  The pants have the classic satin stripe down the side and are wide legged, which compliment my frame.

This suit is perfect for special occasions, and unless something changes, I’ll probably be wearing this baby for New Year’s Eve with a shimmering blouse!

Hope you’re having a fabulous week, lovelies!  Until next time, love and light!

Julie

Lily Silk: Fine, Feminine and Fabulous in the Fall

*sponsored*

Hey beautiful people!

I’m overjoyed to have the next five days away from the 8 to 5, for the Thanksgiving holiday.  I’m also to happy to share with you this feminine and fabulous, silk kimono from Lily Silk.

I’ve partnered with Lily Silk to highlight their high end “mulberry silk”, that is known for its luxury and comfort.  And don’t be confused by the color or design, as we are deep into the fall months of the year! Note; it was 90 degrees today in Los Angeles!  So, you can see that seasons really don’t matter to me!  #iwearwhatiwant

My Fluttering Heart and Shoulders! Who What Wear Does It Again

I guess you could say, I pretty much adore everything from the Who What Wear Collection.  My heart (and shoulders) are fluttering!

Seriously, this collection is one of the reasons I try to stay out of Target because it’s pretty much a wrap if I walk through their doors!  And I should let you know, the prices are affordable.

This Flutter Shoulder Dress that’s getting a lot of wear from me right now, is everything! So feminine, floral and perfect for the Cali fall weather.

So, you’ve been warned.  Once you start with this line, you’ll be hooked!  Believe me.

Until next time, love and light!

Italy + Artisan = THE “ITALISAN” HANDBAG

*sponsored post*

Mama’s got a brand new bag, and it is absolutely stunning!

I just had to use a few words from rhythm and blues singer, James Brown to describe my fabulous new handbag from Italisan!  There are no embellishments or exaggeration here, when I say this bag takes my breath away.

Made in Italy for the refined American woman, The Lucia Clutch comes in three colors: Satin Black, Pearl White and my color of choice, Sunset Coral.

Beautifully crafted, flowers adorn the bag in 3D fashion.  She is even more lovely in person.

Lucia was a my favorite outfit accessory during my annual birthday dinner with the Hubbs!

The Girlie Girl Takes on Menswear Style.

How we present ourselves to the world is everything, lovelies. That’s why it’s important to put your best face, and style forward!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a girlie, girl!

Wikipedia describes a girlie girl as, “a woman who chooses to dress and behave in an especially feminine style, such as wearing pink (I like red), using make-up, perfume, dressing in skirts, dresses and blouses.”

Well, I may be all woman, but on occasion, I add a little menswear to my outfit!

I’m wearing this gorgeous Casati Fein Necktie from Dwimmer; made especially for women. It’s a breeze to put on and it’s handmade! Just this little addition to my black shirtdress, turned my outfit from drab to fab!

Wishing everyone a fabulous week and until next time, love and light!

Black, Beige and Colorblocked.

Hello beauties!

Y’all know I Iove an amazing wrap dress!  And why not add another one to my closet as we transition into colder weather?

I think this dress from eShakti is perfect for autumn. It’s actually a very unique piece with beige and black color blocking, pockets and silver circular embellishments that make it stand out from the rest.

And I can’t express enough that this make of dress is flattering for all body types.  And curvy girls, if you don’t believe in the power of this dress, the mother of all wrap dresses (as I call her), Diane Von Furstenberg quoted, “I would say the wrap dress is better when you are a bit curvier.”

Until next time, love and light!

The Perfect Combination

As a person who loves style and fashion, sometimes it amazes me how easily I can pull outfits together with little to no effort.  I’m usually not one to toot my own horn, but at this age I’ve earned the right to mention my God given gifts, but always with a humble spirit.  I think I pulled together the perfect combination for this post.

During a recent girls’ day out with my friend Kimberly, I stumbled upon this wrap dress from the Who What Wear Collection in Target.  I’m pretty sure it was the last one in the store, and rumor has it – –  the dress is now sold out (in XS – XL)!  Not only is it pretty with pinstripes, but it has ruffles and is a curvy girls dream!

I paired the dress with a pair of cobalt blue sandals from Shoeland, and The Cobalt Blue Saffiano Leather ‘Mini Christy’ Tote from MelBoteri.  If you want a MelBoteri beauty like this one, use code “StylishParadox” for a 15% discount code at checkout.

As we move into the beginning of a new week, let’s not forget to send up prayers for our fellow men, women and children affected by the hurricanes in Texas and Florida!  Pay it forward and donate to your charity of choice for relief efforts.  Clean out that closet and pantry to help those in need!

Until next time, love and light!

Set the Standard with Style

Hey there lovelies!

I hope everyone had a wonderful labor day holiday and are ready for the week ahead!  Are you ready to set the standard with style?  I had to say that, because it sounds good.  Which leads right into my reason for this post.

I think all of us want to wear well made clothing.  I grew up in household with plus size women and as I recall, in times of the past there wasn’t much of a variety of clothing for plus size ladies to choose from.  But as style transitioned and evolved, there are many choices now for the “curvy woman”.

Universal Standard is a brand that caters to women sized 10-28.  They manufacture outstanding garments.  I can tell you firsthand, because I have some amazing pieces from their brand.

Universal Standard was created to set the standard, by not comprising on choices and style for their customers.  They use fabrics such Peruvian cotton and French satin back crepe. And get this…  If you go up or down a size, they will replace your clothing… FOR FREE!

They are hitting the road for a 12 city tour in the United States, with in store pop-up shops at Nordstrom, while doing a model search for their next campaign.  Los Angeles dates are October 5th – 6th at the Century City store.  Stop by!  I’ll be there too.

Until next time, love and light!
